A message from Executive Director Cindy Caldwell Giving Back This Holiday Season F or the second year, the Beachwood Chamber of Commerce is dedicating its December luncheon as a give-back event and the Alzheimer’s Association – Cleveland Area Chapter, Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio, and Harvest for Hunger have been selected by our membership as recipients for 2016. As a group, we feel grateful for individual successes and recognize the importance and value of not-for-profit organizations and how they benefit our community. The luncheon will take place at Maggiano’s Little Italy at Beachwood Place, December 14, 2016 at 11:30 am, and a representative from each organization will speak for 10 minutes to educate luncheon guests about the importance of their organization and how they can help. This luncheon is open to BCC members and the community. We invite all attendees to help spread the holiday spirit by making contributions to benefit at least one of these organizations. To register, visit www.beachwood.org; and from the Chamber, we wish you a safe and wonderful holiday season. The Alzheimer’s Accociation – Cleveland Area Chapter The Alzheimer’s Association – Cleveland Area Chapter provides support and resources to individuals suffering from memory loss, and their families, in a five-county region of northeast Ohio including Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain counties. Nearly all services are provided free of charge. The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. The disease currently affects more than five million American adults and is the 6th leading cause of death in the country. It is the only cause of death among the top 10 in the US that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed down. The organization’s mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. Their vision is a world without Alzheimer’s disease. For more information, visit www.alz.org/cleveland. Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio, Inc. Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio, Inc. has been serving the local community for nearly 100 years as an independent Goodwill affiliate. While most people recognize Goodwill as a retail thrift chain, that is only a portion of the Goodwill mission. Goodwill is a nonprofit, social service agency dedicated to improving the lives of all people by providing skill-building programs and services needed to help remove common barriers to good jobs and independence. The stores provide revenue to help fund these programs and serve as job training sites. When shopping and giving to Goodwill, our local communtiy is supported. For more information, visit www.goodwillgoodskills.org. Harvest for Hunger – Greater Cleveland Food Bank Harvest for Hunger is one of the largest annual, community-wide food and funds drives in the nation – providing critical resources to local hunger relief organizations in 21 counties in Northeast and North Central Ohio. Last year, businesses, supermarkets, schools and individuals across the region came together and contributed enough resources to provide more than 20 million nutritious meals. Community support is critical to the organization’s hunger relief efforts since, unfortunately, the number of people turning to hunger centers for emergency food continues to rise. The need is great, but with your support, a difference is being made! For more information, visit www. greaterclevelandfoodbank.org/harvest-for-hunger/overview. We invite all attendees to help spread the holiday spirit by making contributions to benefit at least one of these organizations. 216.831.0003 • Beachwood.org • 24000 Mercantile Rd. • Suite 3 • Beachwood, OH 44122 22 Beachwood Buzz n December 2016
