Fine Furniture, Home Collecibles, Antiques and More INNOVATORS IN MEMORY CARE Experience Makes a Difference Words from the Ward T he February meeting of the Beachwood Democratic Ward Club was fantastic. In addition to meeting new members, we all had the pleasure of hearing from Peggy Zone-Fisher as she discussed the Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio. The good news is, Beachwood is becoming more multi cultural and the more we celebrate this change, the better our community will be. Our March 10 meeting will have Judge Michael Astrab with a candid and informative discussion about the heroin epidemic in the area. The scourge of heroin has been increasing steadily and suburban heroin use has been rising at alarming rates. The typical heroin user is not who you think it is. Come hear Judge Astrab as he shares facts and figures as well as solutions to dealing with the scourge of heroin. The featured speaker April 14 is Cuyahoga County Democratic Party Executive Director Nick Martin, who will share his wisdoms and insights into the election process and the GOTV efforts of the party that are second to none. Nick will also let us know about what the party has in store for the upcoming election cycle. There are so many great reasons to come to a meeting of the Beachwood Democratic Ward Club. Our meetings start at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers and are free and open to all Democrats. For more information, call 216.292.5562 or email BeachwoodDemocrat@gmail. com. Now a movie! 8100 East Washington Street Chagrin Falls, OH 44023 ChagrinFalls@arden-courts.com New Observation Unit at Ahuja (440) 543-6766 S ometimes, when a patient is in a hospital’s Emergency Department, it isn’t immediately clear whether he or she should be admitted. That is why an interim location – the observation unit – is helpful. It allows physicians more time to determine what’s best for patients. To meet this need, University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center recently added a new 10-bed observation unit where hospital staff can closely monitor patients and expedite testing and treatment. In most cases, a decision on admission is made within 3 to 23 hours. Among the conditions that often require observation are abdominal pain, asthma and other respiratory conditions, chest pain, dehydration, neurological symptoms, kidney stones, fainting and minor infections. Patients in the observation unit are in a semi-private area, where they can be more comfortable, and where there are amenities, including food service and individual TVs. According to Susan Juris, president of UH Ahuja Medical Center, “The observation unit is another way Ahuja can best serve a patient’s clinical needs, at the right level of care.” 15 YEARS STRONG SERVING THE CHAGRIN VALLEY TM Memory Care Community March 2015 n Beachwood Buzz 11
