STYROFOAM RECYCLING
The City of Beachwood has expanded its recycling program and is now accepting styrofoam (ESP #6), the “block type” that is used in packaging. Residents can bring their styrofoam to the Public Service Department, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and place it in the appropriate box in our recycling area on the west side of the Service Center Building. We are partnering with Buckeye Industries, a company providing meaningful employment to individuals with disabilities in our community. The recycled styrofoam is condensed into heavy bricks that are sold to other industries for the production of picture frames and crown molding. By recycling this styrofoam, the city is diverting more material from the landfill and supporting a socially beneficial program. Styrofoam peanuts or styrofoam used to package food cannot be accepted at this time. Packing peanuts can be recycled at any UPS store, with the closest to Beachwood being located at: 13940 Cedar Road, University Heights 30799 Pinetree Road, Pepper Pike 16781 Chagrin Blvd., Shaker Heights
RAIN BARREL WORKSHOP
Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District is hosting a Rain Barrel Workshop with the City of Beachwood and Friends of Euclid Creek on Monday, April 20 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Beachwood Community Center. A rain barrel is a container used to collect and store rainwater that would otherwise be lost to runoff and likely diverted to a storm drain. Collected water may then be used to water lawns and gardens. The cost is $60 (Friends of Euclid Creek members receive a $10 discount) and includes the barrel, all materials and the downspout diverter. To register for this workshop (registration is required by April 15), contact Claire Posius at 216.524.6580, ext. 16, or cposius@cuyahogaswcd. org. Additional workshops are listed at www. EuclidCreekWatershed.org.

CENTENNIAL FACT
Originally part of Warrensville Township, the Village of Beachwood became an independent community in 1915. Beachwood attained city status in 1960. The City was initially called Beechwood, but a clerical error was made during the City's incorporation and the "e" was swapped for an "a". The City of Beachwood welcomes Erin Schaad as its new Assistant Clerk of Council. Schaad was sworn in by Law Director Brian A. Reali at a recent City Council meeting.
