Its mission is to fight and end child abuse and neglect by protecting at-risk children, empowering single mothers and families in crisis and building safer communities for every child. Mike Foley, director of the Department of Sustainability and David Beach, director of the Green City, Blue Lake Institute of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, reviewed the County’s new sustainability toolkit that was developed to help residents and local governments address various energy and environmental matters in their cities. Toolkit topics include air quality, energy, food, green building and historic preservation, land use and development, solid waste, transportation, trees and land management and watershed issues. The toolkit has local links to subject matter and county experts who have worked on these issues, as well as links to best practices, local examples and model ordinances for quick assistance in addressing specific topics. Foley also talked about the residential solar co-op that the county is helping to form. To download the entire toolkit, visit www.executive.cuyahogacounty.us/ en-US/Sustainable-Cuyahoga.aspx. Shanelle Smith, deputy director of the Sustainability Department, then talked about the Clean Energy Financing Hub, organized by the county, for the purpose of helping cities, businesses and non-profits to add energy efficiency and renewable technologies to their buildings.
