The TempleTifereth Israel Dedication and Expansion The Temple-Tifereth Israel dedicated Its newly expanded and renovated Beachwood Synagogue on Sunday, September 11. With more than 700 attendees, the new Jack and Lilyan Mandel Building was dedicated with a beautiful program, ceremonial affixing of the mezuzah, ribbon cutting, and presentation of the Jack and Lilyan Mandel Wall in the Community Commons. A campaign for the project, TempleTomorrow, was launched in June 2013 with a challenge grant of up to $16 million from the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation – of which Morton Mandel is chairman and CEO – in memory of Jack and Lilyan Mandel. A ceremonial groundbreaking took place in October 2014 and construction began in March 2015. Eighteen months later, the project is almost completed, at an estimated cost of $24.5 million. The Temple will host a community open house and Simchat Torah celebration on Sunday, October 23, at The Temple-Tifereth Israel, 26000 Shaker Boulevard, Jack and Lilyan Mandel Building, Beachwood. There will be tours from 3 to 4 pm followed by holiday crafts and refreshments at 4 pm. The celebration will continue with the popular, Rock My Simchat Torah service at 4:30 pm where the Torah is rolled out and all the stories identified. In recognition of this dedication, Mayor Merle S. Gorden and City Council proclaimed Sunday, September 11, 2016 as “The Temple Tifereth-Israel Day” in the City of Beachwood.
