Mary Poppins Set to Fly Into Beachwood
Based on the stories of P.L. Travers and the Walt Disney Film.
Original Music and Lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman.
Book by Julian Fellowes.
Mary Poppins is set to soar
over the rooftops of London and
on to the stage of Beachwood
Community Theater this Novem-
ber and December. This high-fly-
ing family musical features the
delightful songs from the cher-
ished Disney film including "A
Spoonful of Sugar," "Supercalifra-
gilisticexpialidocious" and "Step
in Time." The winner of 44 major
theatre awards, Mary Poppins
has captivated audiences with its
enchanting story, unforgettable
songs and dazzling dance num-
bers. Tickets are $8 for adults and
$7 for students/seniors.
Mary Poppins is the practi-
cally-perfect nanny who helps
audiences to discover the silver
lining in every situation, realize
that sometimes they may just
use the winds of change to go
fly a kite, and take their medi-
cine with a spoonful of sugar.
Mary reminds us how family
values bring order to the Banks's
household. She whisks Jane and
Michael Banks off on magical
adventures, dispensing astute
advice along the way.
Director Jill Koslen-Freireich
adores Mary's repeated phrase
"... Anything can happen if you
let it." We are only restricted by
the limitations we put on our-
selves. If you want something
badly enough, you can make it
reality. Mary shares her vision
that even ordinary moments
can become Jolly Holidays and
that every "thing" deserves care,
respect and love.
Koslen-Freireich feels that the
theme of this show rings true
within the Beachwood Communi-
ty Theater as a whole, saying, "We
all have a desire to stretch our
imaginations, be a part of some-
thing bigger than ourselves and
to create something amazing."
As always, Beachwood Com-
munity Theater looks beyond the
happily ever after of its charac-
ters, cast and crew. All candy-sale
profits will benefit Harvest for
Hunger. As Mary references, we
need to look beyond the tips of
our noses and recognize those
in need of our assistance, and in
Northeast Ohio, many families
are in need of food. Partnering
with Harvest for Hunger allows
the cast of Mary Poppins to share
the magic with others on a level
far greater than applause.
Director Jill Koslen-
Freireich adores Mary's
repeated phrase "...
Anything can happen
if you let it." We are
only restricted by the
limitations we put on
ourselves. If you want
something badly enough,
you can make it reality.
