Israel Bonds Invests for the Future
In 1950, in the King David
Hotel in Jerusalem, David Ben
Gurion, Israel's fi rst prime minis-
ter, gathered Jewish leaders from
around the world to discuss the
concept of Israel issuing sover-
eign debt in the form of bonds
to the Jewish diaspora. In 1951,
Israel Bonds was launched in the
United States as the Develop-
ment Corporation for Israel, and
Cleveland was one of the fi rst
cities to establish a sales offi ce.
Sixty-fi ve years later, Devel-
opment Corporation for Israel/
Israel Bonds continues as a FIN-
RA-member broker dealer that
underwrites securities issued by
the State of Israel in the United
States. Since the fi rst bonds were
issued, Israel has never defaulted
or missed a payment of princi-
ple or interest on Israel bonds.
Globally, the Bonds enterprise
ranks among Israel's most valued
economic and strategic resourc-
es, with a record of proven suc-
cess and worldwide sales rapidly
approaching $40 billion.
Proceeds from the sale of Isra-
el bonds helped build every sec-
tor of Israel's economy, and Israel
bonds have played a decisive
role in Israel's rapid evolution
into a groundbreaking, global
leader in high-tech, greentech
and biotech.
In addition to the Jewish com-
munity, investors include banks,
insurance companies, pension
plans, foundations, universities
and government. Locally, these
include such institutions as PNC
Bank, KeyBank, Huntington
National Bank, Fifth Third Bank,
Cuyahoga County and the Ohio
Treasurer.
Israel bonds start as low
as $36 and for terms as short
as two years, and may be
appropriate for investment
portfolios, retirement plans
and as donations to charitable
organizations. Israel bonds
make great gifts for special
occasions, especially Hanukkah
at this time of year.
Investors should consider
how much of their portfolio
to allocate to any investment,
including Israel bonds, based
upon its potential risks, their
liquidity needs, and other factors
and consider getting advice
from a qualifi ed fi nancial advisor.
Potential investors should read
the prospectus carefully before
investing. Rates and prospec-
tuses may be obtained at www.
israelbonds.com.
The regional offi ce for Ohio
and Kentucky is located in
Commerce Park, Building
Four, Beachwood. For more
