Educational Breakout Sessions:
1:15 – 2:15 pm Option 1 – “Geriatric Assessment – the Medical Evaluation of Dementia” with Montefiore Medical Director Dr. Barbara Messinger-Rapport, M.D., Ph.D., FACP, CMD. Dr. Messinger-Rapport is Director, Center for Geriatric Medicine, Cleveland Clinic and is Associate Professor at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. Option 2 – “The Psychosocial Aspects of Dementia Behavior” with Dr. Lori Stevic-Rust, Ph.D., ABPP, Montefiore and The Weils’ dementia care consultant. She is a board-certified Clinical Health Psychologist and healthcare consultant. Dr. Stevic-Rust is Director of Integrative Medicine and Senior Services for Lake Health. 2:15 – 3 pm Option 1 – “Financial and Legal Protection for Families” with Sandra Buzney, J.D., LISW, who has extensive experience in working with elderly and chronically ill individuals and their families. She is a sought-after presenter on elder law issues and Medicaid eligibility to organizations that provide services to the elderly. Option 2 – “When Dementia Comes Home: Enhancing Communication and Connection” with Kathryn Kilpatrick, M.A., CCC/SLP, a geriatric communication consultant, memory fitness specialist, speech-language pathologist, motivational speaker and author who does memory coaching to individuals and families.
