nshe Chesed Fairmount Temple is pleased to welcome Cleveland theater legend Dorothy Silver as the next Sunday Morning Forum speaker on May 17, at 10 a.m. This program is free, open to all, and is sponsored by the Men of Fairmount Temple. For more than a half-century, Dorothy Silver has been one of Cleveland’s cherished theater icons. Whether it’s acting or directing, she has blessed the stages all across Northern Ohio and has been honored with numerous theater awards. She has played lead roles in plays and was co-star and collaborator with her late husband, Reuben Silver, appearing in 50 of his shows. She has been described as “Cleveland’s grand dame of theater,” and we welcome her to Fairmount Temple to share some stories and memories. Coffee and bagels will be served at 9:30 a.m. A Noted Theater Icon to Speak at Fairmount Temple Remembering the Holocaust E leven hundred Holocaust survivors call Cleveland home. Last month, our community honored these survivors and remembered those who perished in the Holocaust at the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and the Kol Israel Foundation’s Yom Hashoah V’Hagvurah. Guests witnessed a moving ceremony where six of Cleveland’s Holocaust survivors and their families lit memorial candles to remember those who perished. A seventh candle was lit by a World War II veteran and liberator, and an eighth candle was lit to represent “Righteous Among the Nations.” Children also participated in a “March of the Generations,” to signify that Jewish life continues after the Holocaust continues. As part of the Holocaust education curriculum, local schools entered the Yom Hashoah V’Hagvurah Creative Arts Contest, where students were invited to create original written and visual arts pieces to incorporate this year’s theme, “70th Anniversary of the Liberation: Keeping the Memory Alive.” Congratulations to the following Beachwood residents, recognized as contest winners: Visual Arts – Middle School 2nd Place – Orly Einhorn, 8th Grade (Gross Schechter Day School) Visual Arts – High School 1st Place – Hannah Levitin, 10th Grade (Fuchs Mizrachi School) 2nd Place – Mollie Goldman, 9th Grade (Beachwood High School) Pictured from top: Artwork by Orly Einhorn, Hanna Levitin and Mollie Goldman. 4th Annual ChamberAwards Ceremony Thursday, May 14, 2015 Cocktail Reception at 4:00 p.m. • Keynote Speaker at 4:45 p.m. • Awards to Follow Mandel Jewish Community Center • 26001 South Woodland Road • Beachwood Congratulations to our finalists for Business of the Year and Civic Organization of the Year.
