BHS Hosts 10th Annual ASL Club Holiday Party O n Tuesday, December 9, Beachwood High School hosted its 10th Annual ASL Club Holiday Party for deaf and hard-of-hearing children and adults. More than 500 children and adults with their families from dozens of schools and organizations serving Northeast Ohio’s deaf and hard-of-hearing community attended, including 70 students from Beachwood High School’s American Sign Language (ASL) Club and ASL foreign language classes. Special guests include students in Beachwood’s K-12 deaf education program, deaf senior citizens, students from the Wilson School (formerly AG Bell School), seniors from Helen S. Brown Senior Citizens Center, friends from Christ Deaf Lutheran Church, Cleveland Hearing and Speech and many of our deaf friends in the Cleveland community. Beachwood ASL teacher and ASL Club advisor Sharon Weisman said, “This event is near and dear to my heart since it provides an opportunity for BHS students to give back to the community.” She added, “Our ASL club and language classes have a historic bond with Cleveland’s deaf and hard-of-hearing community. This party also gave typical-hearing students the opportunity to practice the communication skills they have learned in Beachwood’s American Sign Language foreign language classes.” Pictured, clockwise from top right: • Jacob Miller won a grand prize on the prize wheel • Hannah Kahn works the prize wheel • Jada Baskerville performs for the crowd • Joey Rogoff gives away “love you” bears • Darjon Bentley with Spiderman and Benny the Bison • Sharon Weisman, Arin Mintz and Zoe Winger • Sign Choir under the direction of Rachel Leffel A Glimpse Inside the 10,000 Small Businesses Program C If your business has a minimum of four employees and has been in uyahoga Community College, in partnership with Goldman operation for at least two years, you may be eligible for the program.
