The Beachwood Schools Foundation (BSF) is a 501(c)3 philanthropic organization that is administered by a volunteer board of directors from the Beachwood community. Its primary mission is to obtain funds from individuals, families and corporations to provide scholarships to graduating seniors who are continuing their education. There are 26 different scholarships and graduating seniors may apply to up to three different ones. A list of the scholarships is located on the school website. Additionally, an “Above and Beyond” program has been initiated to raise money to enhance educational programming in the Beachwood School District. We often hear from students who receive scholarships through our Foundation that they benefit from both the financial assistance and the knowledge that their community believes in them enough to subsidize their education or award them for their accomplishments. While students have access to many scholarship opportunities, they tend to be motivated and inspired to apply to the ones from their own backyard. Donations make a difference. Here is how you can be part of this wonderful opportunity: n Make a contribution to the BSF scholarship fund. Growing our fund will help us increase the number of scholarships we can award each year. n Give a gift in recognition of a birthday, a class reunion, an anniversary, a graduation, or other joyous occasion. n Add to an existing established scholarship. n Establish a memorial scholarship in honor of a deceased family member, friend, neighbor, teacher, or co-worker. n During the holidays, or at the end of the school year, consider making a donation in honor of a favorite teacher. n Whether you are considering a small one-time donation or becoming a regular donor, the money donated to BSF will go toward promoting and supporting Beachwood students! Beachwood Artist Seung Bo Roh Receives International Recognition S eung Bo Roh, a Beachwood resident, was born in Seoul, South Korea. As a creative contemporary artist, she shows her works in exhibitions and galleries worldwide. Her paintings are influenced by social complexities of our urban living spaces, By focusing on these types of spaces, she expresses feelings that are solemn and bleak, yet somehow splendid. Roh moved to Beachwood in 2011, since which time she began exhibiting her works in several local venues, included the Beachwood Community Center and Cuyahoga Community College. She recently received three special recognition awards in the 11th Annual Color: Bold/Subtle Juried Online International Art Exhibition, hosted by Upstream People Gallery. This international exhibition received approximately 160 art entries from around the world, 32 of which were selected. “My works were based on my design background such as high contrast images with strong colors and simplified shapes. I often utilize the ‘Ohbangsaek’ colors, or the traditional Korean colors of red, blue, yellow, white, and black that are related to Korean emotion, forming Korean traditional beauty.” Roh received “The 2014 2nd Korean Creation Culture Arts Awards” from Korea, as a western artist in its art category. Her exhibition is currently on display at Waterloo Art Gallery, 15605 Waterloo Road, Cleveland, through January 31; and is also featured in the archived section of www.upstreampeoplegallery.com.
