Warm Days COOL TRENDS
After a long winter, spring is finally here. To complement these warm days, we share these cool trends.
Furniture/Decorating
W
hen meeting with professionals at the Ohio Design Centre, located right here in Beachwood on Mercantile Road, we learned that six of their eight showrooms are open to the public. The other two are open for browsing, although a decorator is required to make purchases. Angela Williams, account coordinator for Studiothink, the center's marketing company, is working hard to get the word out that the ODC is open to the public and that if a buyer wants to use a decorator and doesn't have one, he or she can be matched up with one. While talking with Lisa Kuenning at Donghia, she told us that wall coverings are making a huge comeback this year and are being used throughout the home. With a resurgence in natural and innovative options, they offer a wide selection of woven fibers, hemp, grasscloth, fabric, foam, wood, mother of Furniture and wall coverings pearl, magnetic and even 3D hologram papers from which to choose. Since from The Ohio Design Centre. many of these papers are works of art, clients often choose to use them for feature walls, panels and something special to hang on their walls. “It's not the wallpaper you think of when thinking from the past,” Kuenning said. “We still have that, but what we have today is a lot more innovative.” In lighting, the trends are energy efficiency and LED lighting. What makes lighting interesting is the use of blended materials, like glass and metal, leather and metal or wood and metal. Lighting can create a statement and be seen as jewelry for the room. Representatives from all showrooms agree that warmer tones, texture and depth are being used in furniture. While neutral tones will always be popular, beautiful, rich colors that can be used as an accent or theme are hot this spring.
