Opening Program For Beachwood Elderclass!
"Clarinet Pops"
B
eachwood Elderclass announces its
Thursday, October 9 program, featur-
ing popular artists Carl Topilow on
clarinet and Marshall Griffith on piano.
Topilow, currently in his 18th year as
founding conductor of the Cleveland Pops
Orchestra, is renowned for his versatility,
whether he is holding a conductor's baton or
his trademark red clarinet. He is a multi-tal-
ented virtuoso who is equally at home in
classical and popular music, both as conduc-
tor and instrumentalist. He is also conductor
and director of the Orchestral Program at the
Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM.)
Marshall Griffith is active both as a
jazz and classical pianist. He is a frequent
performer for benefit concerts for many
Northeast Ohio organizations, including The
Cleveland International Piano Competition,
Cleveland Orchestra, and Playhouse Square
Foundation. He was appointed to the CIM
Faculty in 1975, where he teaches all levels
of music theory and improvisation courses.
Sponsored by the Beachwood Board of
Education, Elderclass affords residents an
opportunity for learning and entertainment
in a high school environment. Excellent
lunches, catered by the vocational culinary
arts class, are $5 for Beachwood residents
and $8 for non-residents, if space is avail-
able. Programs in the school's new Commu-
nity Room are free and open to the public.
Elderclass coordinator Mort Biel reminds
attendees that lunch will be served in
the Beachwood Bistro at noon, with the
program to follow at 1 p.m. in the adjacent
Community Room. A bus will begin pickups
going from the northeast corner of the
parking lot to the front entrance, beginning
at 11:15 a.m. and ending at noon. The bus
will return you to your car following the
program.
Please register for the lunch by using
the flyer received in the mail. If you are not
registered to receive Elderclass monthly pro-
gram flyers, please contact Marlene Dunger
at the Beachwood Board of Education at

by mail only. No walk-ins for the lunch.
