Lewis Zipkin to be honored

2014 Annual ORT America Brunch on October 19.

ewis A. Zipkin, long-time ORT leader, will be
honored by the Northeast Ohio Region at
the organization's 43rd Annual Brunch on

Sunday, October 19, at The Mayfield Sand Ridge
Club in South Euclid.

The announcement was made by Northeast

Ohio Region president, Eric Rubin. "We are
pleased to honor Lew Zipkin. He has made ORT
a passion and a priority for so many years. It is
always meaningful to recognize the commitment
of one of our own family."

Rubin continues, "The annual ORT Brunch has recognized outstanding

leaders of the general, Jewish, and ORT communities for more than 40
years. As we broaden our outreach and build toward the future, we have
launched the Northeast Ohio Region of ORT America and used this op-
portunity to rename our annual award. Maimonides outlines seven levels
of charity, with the highest level being to help a man help himself. This
has always been and will continue to be the essence of ORT's mission. To
reflect that link, the award will now be known as The Maimonides Award."

Zipkin is a second-generation ORT supporter following in the foot-

steps of both his parents. Active on the local and national levels of ORT,
he has served in various capacities. He was vice president of American
ORT's local chapter, as well as a vice president and member of the
national board. Zipkin chaired ORT's Finance, Budget and Investment;
Planned Giving; and Real Estate committees. Today, Lewis serves as a
member of the Northeast Ohio Region's Advisory Committee and on the
ORT America National Boards' Executive Committee where he assists ORT
America with its real estate holdings.

Zipkin is the founder and principal of the law firm of Zipkin Whiting

Co., LPA, which focuses on employment discrimination. He and his
partner, Dawn Kuderna, operate and manage real-estate holdings across
the country. He has received awards as an extensive real-estate owner in
the Cleveland area. As a landlord, Zipkin was honored by the Cleveland
Tenants Organization as "Landlord of the Year" and has received awards
from the American Institute of Architects.

In the local Cleveland community, Zipkin has been involved in organi-

zations such as United Way, the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Care Association,
and the City Club of Cleveland. He was an initial trustee of Ohio's Second
Special Improvement District, where he served as president and a mem-
ber of the board. Currently, he serves as the district's vice president.

Co-chairs for the event are Carole and Bart Bookatz, Ellen and Victor

Cohn, Susan and Michael Hennenberg, Robert T. Glickman, Suellen and
Larry Kadis, Dawn Kuderna, Anne Meyers, Susan Salkin, Barbara and
Michael Peterman, Kyla and Mitchell Schneider, Jane and Lee Seidman,
and Eileen and Robert Sill.

Proceeds from the event will support ORT America programs for Jew-

ish, Arab and Druse children in the periphery of Israel.
