New Beachwood Cub Scout Pack Takes To The Waves ALL ABOARD – excited boys from a new Cub Scout pack have been given a first-hand trip aboard a U.S. Coastguard clipper. The boys are keen members of Beachwood’s Pack 613, who bring a welcome return of Cub Scouting to the city. Boys in grades one through five are enjoying the fun and adventure of the cub program. Their leader, Rabbi Akiva Feinstein, said he is delighted to be involved in scouting and thanked the Young Israel of Cleveland synagogue on Green Road, which agreed to be the chartering organization for the pack. Formed this summer, the pack has already attracted a dozen boys from the orthodox Jewish community and hopes that more will want to join the fun. As part of their summer activities, the boys were welcomed aboard a clipper by the U.S. Coastguard that serves on Lake Erie. Rabbi Feinstein said, “It was a great day out. The boys – and the leaders – loved touring the vessel and learning about the important work of protecting our country’s borders.” Boys from the pack are eligible to progress into Boy Scouting with Troop 95, which meets at the Green Road Synagogue. District executive Mark Baxter, of Boy Scouts of America Greater Cleveland Council, said, “It is an honor to welcome the boys of Young Israel into the scouting program. It helps boys develop into the next generation of leaders for this country through fun and adventure.” “We are always looking for new organizations to charter a Cub Scout pack or a Boy Scout troop, or even a venturing crew, which is our high adventure program for young men and women, ages fourteen and older,” Baxter added.
