H CITY COUNCIL H BRIAN LINICK My name is Brian Linick and I am excited about the opportunity to serve once again on Beachwood City Council. My wife, Alison, and I have three amazing children, the oldest of whom just recently started kindergarten at Bryden. In fact, this is the same school that I once attended, and it is where my mother Diane was a teacher for nearly 25 years. My family has always had deep roots in Beachwood, and having four generations of my family currently living in Beachwood has helped me understand the important role community plays in all of our lives. This is why I am so committed to protecting the future of Beachwood. Six years ago I had the privilege of being sworn in as a member of Beachwood City Council. As a councilman in Beachwood I served with humility, integrity and passion. I focused on fiscal responsibility while working hard to expand services to residents, businesses, and visitors. I took my role very seriously and worked tirelessly to represent Beachwood residents. It has been very rewarding seeing so many of those issues that were important to me now adopted in Beachwood. While there has been some progress made, there is still much more work to be done. I have a clear vision for the future of Beachwood. I am committed to not only maintaining all of the great services we love and appreciate, but working to provide even more enhanced services to residents and businesses. Experience has taught me that in order to achieve this vision we must have financial strength, be committed to enhancing the character of our community, and work hard to maintain an open and accessible governement. Now, as Beachwood celebrates its 100th birthday, our city is in need more than ever of leaders focused on the future. I will work hard to develop a new master plan that protects the identity of Beachwood’s residential neighborhoods while providing ample space for thoughtful commercial development. I am committed to restoring trust in our local government, and believe that with the right leadership, Beachwood’s best years will still lie ahead. I respectfully ask for your support and your vote on November 3rd. I am committed to restoring trust in our local government, and believe that with the right leadership, Beachwood’s best years will still lie ahead. H CITY COUNCIL H MICHAEL SILVER Michael Silver for City Council – Making Beachwood Even Better My wife, Beth, and I have more than just lived in Beachwood for the last 19 years; whether by volunteering for Beachwood rec, having our children in the schools or Beth’s work at Menorah Park, we’ve become committed to this community. Now, I’m extending that commitment to the future of Beachwood. As Beachwood embraces its second century, we are not without challenges. New employers have located to Chagrin Highlands, which doesn’t provide as much benefit to the city and schools; and new rental properties have been developed, changing the overall nature of our residents, their needs and priorities in a community. Residents want a more livable and connected community. Our services distinguish Beachwood but maintaining the status quo and spending outlandishly on new facilities will only result in another tax increase. We need to put our police and fire services where they will best serve our residents, with the proper facilities at the proper cost. With little room left for new homes, the potential destruction of Bryden school for housing is an issue that council will likely have to address in the coming years. Our neighborhoods continue to be impacted by development. Commerce Park and other aging buildings lack tenants, and unlike Chagrin Highlands, these areas solely benefit our schools and city. Together, we need to build a Beachwood that remains a great place to work while protecting our neighborhoods. There has been a lot of news about Beachwood this past year, much of which is less than positive. Our community deserves better. Electing a more transparent and responsible council, that isn’t just a rubber stamp, is a step to rebuilding trust in our leadership. My vision for Beachwood addresses these challenges by having a council that is: • Respectful of Residents – through inclusion in the P&Z process, maintaining integrity of residential areas and protecting our neighborhoods. • Responsible with Residents Tax Dollars – by reducing wasteful spending, ensuring proper controls and preventing another tax increase. • Open with Residents – through online council meetings, fewer executive sessions and more residential involvement in our government. These are steps City Council can take. They will make us more responsible, accountable and inclusive. These aren’t hard to achieve and don’t require large investments, but will require a spirit of cooperation between all. You can read more of my vision at www. electsilver.com. With your support, I’m positive we can make Beachwood Even Better. 52 Beachwood Buzz n October 2015
