Words From The Ward
Your Democratic Ward club has been busy. We met in early September to make endorsements for the upcoming municipal election. Our choices can be found in an advertisement in this edition of the Buzz. You should also watch your mailbox for our endorsed candidate mailing. It is the intention of the club members to make this a regular event with each election. Our next regular scheduled meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7 pm in the Beachwood public library. That is also the night of the first Democratic Presidential debate. We are exploring ways to combine our meeting with a watch party. Watch your email for more details. If you’re not on our email list, send an email to BeachwoodDemocrat@ gmail.com and we will add you. For more information, call Steve Rosen at 216.292.5562. You can also keep up with us by liking the Beachwood Democratic Ward Club on Facebook or following @ BwoodDemocrat on Twitter.
The Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF) presents FILM (and other ARTS) FEASTS –
a mouthwateringly delicious series of unique events
The CIFF’s FILM (and other ARTS) FEASTS series, sponsored by Hyland, creator of OnBase, is thrilled to announce its 13th year and its 2015–2016 line-up of events, parties, discussions, and get-togethers, celebrating all that is film and art in Northeast Ohio. This year’s series covers a variety of topics and offers something for everyone – from behind-the-scenes tours of Cleveland’s hottest new venues, to an evening of sampling the creations of culinary creatives, to voting on short subject films for the CIFF40, and one very special weekend in Washington, D.C. Kicking-off in early October and running through February, each event is generously underwritten by a board member or other festival supporters so that all proceeds benefit the CIFF. Help us celebrate 13 years of FILM (and other ARTS) FEASTS and attend any or all of these unique evenings. Make your reservations early, as these events are always quick to sell out. To learn more about the series and to purchase tickets, go to www.clevelandfilm.org or call 216.623.FILM, ext. 14. To request a hard copy of the brochure to be sent to you, please email debby@clevelandfilm.org.
Crista Cowan of Ancestry.com Speaking in Cleveland on Sunday, October 25
Crista Cowan, best known as “The Barefoot Genealogist,” will offer two separate workshops, “Getting the Most Out of Ancestry.com” and “Finding Your Immigrant Ancestor,” on Sunday, Oct. 25. Cowan, who has worked for Ancestry.com for the last 11 years, is an internationally recognized speaker on how to get the most out of this extremely useful and powerful program. Her appearance is sponsored by The Jewish Genealogy Society of Cleveland and the Siegal Lifelong Learning Program at Case Western Reserve University. According to Ken Bravo, vice president of the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies and a past president of the Jewish Genealogy Society of Cleveland, “If you’ve heard Crista Cowan, you already know why you want to attend. If you haven’t heard her, just ask someone who has. She’s a very knowledgeable and phenomenal speaker.” Deborah Abbott, PhD, a board member of the Ohio Genealogical Society representing the Cleveland area and past president of the African American Genealogical Society, Cleveland, adds, “She’s great on methodology and helping you to keep your research on the right track. In addition, she’s very exciting to listen to.” The programs will be held at the Siegal Facility Beachwood located at 26500 Shaker Blvd. Each of the programs is 75 minutes long with plenty of time for questions. The first program will begin at 1 pm and the second program at 3 pm, with refreshments between the two. The cost of one session is $15, $25 for both. Advanced registration is suggested by visiting http:// tinyurl.com/np5q9g9 or calling 216.368.2090.
