All About Rotary
Chagrin Highlands Rotary is a small group of business and civic-mind-
ed community members who promote fellowship, leadership, and
service to our communities and to the world. Its local club incorporates
Beachwood, Orange, Woodmere, and Pepper Pike. Meetings, most with
a prominent speaker, are held every Friday at Mitchell's Fish Market in
Woodmere at noon.
It is one of 53 Rotary Clubs with 2000 Rotarians in Northeast Ohio.
Rotary Clubs are in more than 200 countries throughout the world, all
of which are committed to improving the quality of life in their com-
munities. The Rotary motto is "Service Above Self," which is promoted
throughout the year.
On an annual basis, Chagrin Highlands Rotary provides dictionaries
to third graders in two Cleveland Charter schools, facilitates a sport chal-
lenge event for special needs individuals and recognizes outstanding
police and firemen in all our neighboring communities. Additionally, the
Rotary will be conducting a speech contest in Beachwood and Orange
high schools.
As part of Rotary International, it helps other communities anywhere
in the world when natural disasters occur. The biggest and most well-
known project in recent years has been its commitment to eradicate
polio around the world. When polio eradication began in the 1980s,
there were 350,000 new cases of polio throughout the world. Today
there are only two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, with a total of
about new 28 cases.
In order to support these events, the Chagrin Highlands Rotary will
host its annual pancake breakfast at Orange High School, Sunday morn-
ing, March 13, from 9 am until 1 pm. Blueberry and regular pancakes,
sausage, juice and coffee will be served. The cost is $7 at the door and $5
for seniors and children under 12.
To raise additional funds, sponsorships for the pancake breakfast are
available for $50. Sponsors will receive five tickets to be used for their
family, friends or coworkers. Additionally, the sponsor's name or their
company's name will be displayed on the donor board at the breakfast.
Business card-sized ads on the placemats are also available for $75.
If you are interested in becoming a member of Chagrin Highlands Ro-
tary, or would like to be a donor for its Pancake Breakfast, please contact
John Newburger, membership chairman, at jnewburger@yahoo.com or
216.292.7737.
