Beachwood Students Perform with Graham Nash on June 5
n Friday, June 5, the Contemporary Youth Orchestra (CYO), founded in 1995 by Liza Grossman, will perform with Graham Nash, at 8 p.m. at Severance Hall. This is the 15th time the orchestra has been invited to perform with a rock-star artist. CYO, comprised of 115 musicians, includes Beachwood residents Pauline Keselman (violin), Emily Topilow (violin), Ami Scherson (cello), and Paul Corty (cello). Grossman and Nash have been personal friends for 13 years. “During this concert, our musicians will provide additional voices for the social issues that Graham has been advocating since late ‘60s, all of which are still relevant and prevalent,” Grossman said. “These young musicians recognize that these issues, including taking from the planet, war and respect for others, are really something bigger than just one concert.” CYO chorus, under the direction of Rachel Brown, will also be performing with Nash. Winning three national awards, CYO is the only award-winning youth ensemble in Cleveland. It has been featured on PBS, VH1 Classic, Palladia and AXS TV; and last year was the official orchestra of the Alternative Press Music Awards. CYO will also perform on July 22, at Quicken Loans Arena, at this year's nationally-broadcasted Alternative Press Music Awards. Tickets for the June 5 performance may be purchased at www.cyoorchestra.org.
