n Wednesday, May 6, a busload of Clevelanders left Beachwood Place at 8 a.m. to head to the Statehouse lawn in Columbus, Ohio, to participate in the NCJW/Cleveland's Lobby Day, in partnership with Planned Parenthood and other similarly-minded groups. At the event, 2,000 pairs of empty shoes were on the Ohio Statehouse lawn, representing the many who could not be there. NCJW and Planned Parenthood women told legislators “Don’t Step on Our Rights,” and protested two bills in the Ohio Statehouse which are carefully designed to strip a woman's right to have an abortion, as well as prevent low-income women from accessing preventive and prenatal medical care. Representative Teresa Fedor, who had an abortion while in the military, spoke to the group that had signs and made their voices heard by meeting with their representatives. The event, sponsored by the National Council of Jewish Women/Cleveland, was chaired by Roberta Herman and Cyndy Fellenbaum to bring awareness of the anti-choice legislation being presented by Ohio’s legislators.
