Beachwood Junior Achievement Named Company of the Year
Beachwood High School's Marketing/ Junior Achievement class was named the Great Cleveland Junior Achievement Company of the Year at the JA Career Symposium competition held in April. The JA competition included a public trade show, commercial, and judged presentation. Beachwood JA advances to the JA National Student Leadership Summit held this month in Washington, D.C. The class earned this distinction for its 100 Leaves company, a public art project that celebrates the City of Beachwood’s centennial in 2015. 100 Leaves is the culmination of a year-long effort of the Beachwood High School Marketing/Junior Achievement class, a group of 24 Excel TECC high school seniors coming from Beachwood, Beachwood marketing education students accepted their trophy and $750 cash award at the Brush, Mayfield, and Solon. These tenacious Junior Achievement Career Symposium on April 30, 2015. students sold 37 six-foot-tall fiberglass beech leaves to businesses and organizations throughout Northeast Ohio. Excel TECC Studio Art & Design students were artists as well. Some Area artists were selected to design and create the leaves. Several of the sponsoring businesses include American Greetings, Cleveland Clinic, Legacy Village, Aleris, Beachwood Place, Eton, DDR, and Benesch Attorneys at Law. The City of Beachwood was originally named "Beechwood" after the grove of beech trees that occupied the land. The misspelling is attributed to a Seventh graders Priyanka Shrestha and Ruth Brown and eighth clerical error. Today, grader Jing Jing Shen advanced to the Power of the Pen State less than 10 beech Tournament, representing the top writers among all district and trees remain in regional writers throughout the state of Ohio. Priyanka also earned Beachwood. a fourth place medal at the regional competition. The Power of the Pen team is coached by Beachwood Middle School teachers Julie Ungier and Kelley McLaughlin.
