Jewish Secular Community Announces 2015-16 Bar/Bat Mitzvah Classes
nterfaith, humanistic and secular Jewish families can now introduce their children, age 11-1/2 to 14, to their Jewish heritage in a way that is comfortable for both parents and children. The goal of the program is to connect the B’nai Mitzvah candidates to the rich 3,500 year-old traditions of Judaism, the miracle of Israel, and the vast web of Jewish activities and community services in the Cleveland area – all presented in a non-theistic, humanistic manner. We teach Jewish history and customs to give meaning to our holidays and life cycle events. The program focuses on the Jewish values of Tzedakah (charity) and Tikkun Olam (repairing the world). The class is small and personal and will be limited to just seven students. The class will again be taught by Dani Copeland (pictured), a Beachwood High School graduate and Heights-area school teacher. Classes will meet once a week for 30 weeks, starting October, 2015. There are no requirement to learn Hebrew or Yiddish. The program concludes with a festive “coming of age” ceremony. Informational Open House For interested parents, an informational open house is set for Sunday, June 14, 10 a.m. to noon at a home in the Beachwood/ Heights area. Here, parents will get complete details on the program, meet the teacher and educators who developed the program, and ask any questions. For further information or to register for the June 14 open house, contact Sandra Arndt at 440.349.4793 or Jim Mayer at 216.371.9937, or email jsc@jklein.com.
