Bryden Students Celebrate Their Many Cultures
Media Specialists Win Awards, Host Author Festival
In April, Beachwood students of all ages enjoyed an afternoon of workshops, activities, and more with popular authors Neal Shusterman, Angela Johnson, Marc Brown, Shelley Pearsall, Lindsay Ward and John David Anderson. The event was planned by Beachwood Schools’ media specialists/librarians in conjunction with the Beachwood branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library. Also, the Ohio Educational Library Media Association named Beachwood Schools as the recipient of its 2015 Outstanding School Library District Award, which recognizes an exceptional district library program. Honorees demonstrate a district culture that advocates for the integral role of the school library program in student achievement at the building and district level. Beachwood Schools media specialists are Jennifer Flaherty (BHS), Julie Ungier (BMS), Angela Maxwell (Hilltop) and Shahnyn Moody-Benedict (Bryden). Also, Mrs. Maxwell is OELMA’s 2015 recipient of the Information Technology Innovation Award.
Bryden students and their families enjoyed a multicultural celebration and open house night at the school in April. Students learned about each other’s diverse backgrounds by sampling ethnic foods, dressing in traditional clothing, and sharing cultural artifacts. Photos by Scott Morrison, Discovery Photo.
