Play Reading: King Lear Thursday, June 11, 7 p.m. Join us for a reading of Shakespeare’s classic tale of love, loss and legacy. When an aging monarch resolves to retire and divide his kingdom among three daughters, his sense of reason is suddenly shattered by the surprising emotional storm that ensues. Stoked by fierce winds of treachery, the tragic tempest plunges both king and kingdom into chaos. As his life hangs in the balance, a once-proud monarch is forced to wrestle with morality as he confronts his own mortality. Led by award winning playwright David Hanson. Hometown Book Launch: Author Daniel Melnick The Ash Tree Monday, June 15, 7 p.m. The Ash Tree is a timeless story of the romance between an immigrant and a young American woman. They meet and marry and raise their family in the sunbaked Central Valley of California. Armen Ararat is a poet, a farmer, and then a businessman, who escaped from the nightmarish history of Armenians in Turkey early in the twentieth century. From 1930 to the 1970s, Armen and Artemis, his Armenian-American wife born in Connecticut, raise two sons and a daughter. The Ararats grow into vivid, quintessentially American characters in this powerful and beautifully written novel. The program is presented as part of the commemoration of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. Books available for purchase and signing, courtesy of Mac’s Backs Books on Coventry.
